Laura Turnbull, M.A. | she/her
I am an independent teacher, academic coach, and mentor with 25 years of experience working directly with middle school, high school, and college students as a tutor, classroom teacher, and school administrator. My specialties include English/language arts, humanities/social sciences, French, and Spanish, and other language-based tasks across the curriculum like lab reports, presentations and speeches, and college essays. Let me help you navigate and complete school assignments, coach you in self-advocacy, and give you guidance in managing your time more effectively. I’m based in Berkeley, CA and can work with students in person in the East Bay and anywhere in the U.S. using virtual conferencing on Zoom.
Bio
I was born and raised in Missouri, but the San Francisco Bay Area has been my home for thirty years. I have degrees in English and Romance Languages and professional training and interest in equity grading, Universal Design for Learning, and educational leadership. In addition to teaching and learning, my interests include bass guitar (I’m a beginner!), cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and the Golden State Warriors, cooking and eating delicious food, and hanging out with my long-haired Chihuahua mix, Roxie. I’m also a published poet and part-time blogger, and some of my writing can be found on my creative writing website, lauraturnbull.com.

Laura provided excellent academic tutoring as well, but I’m especially grateful to her for the insightful, thoughtful and accepting way she coached, mentored and cheered on my son.
